Top Tips for Christmas Number 1
October 2nd, 2008The bookies haven’t started taking bets yet but here’s my top tips for this years Christmas Number 1…
Ian Reddington – Most people won’t have a clue who he is until I say Vernon Tomlin from Coronation Street. Ian will be singing a song written by one of the soaps script writers with music composed by Scouting for Girls’ singer Roy Stride. Ian sings the song ‘(Don’t Fall Into) The Mason’s Arms’ to try and persuade his wife Liz McDonald to get back with him in the show.
The Wombats – The band made famous by their hit ‘Let’s dance to Joy Division’ are hoping to raise money for MENCAP this Christmas by releasing a song apparently with, believe it or not, Les Dennis! More news to follow but check out the video for ‘Let’s dance to Joy Division’ in the meantime.
X-Factor – It’s inevitable that whoever wins X-Factor will be the favourite for Xmas number one although I’d really hate to see this happen again. The current favourites this year are:
Rachel Hylton
Laura White
Alexandra Burke
That’s not to say I don’t like X-Factor, how can you not think TV like Ant & Seb is brilliant? Come on move ya body…
2007 Christmas Number 1
September 25th, 2008In 2007, you guessed it, the X-Factor Winner Leon Jackson took the Christmas Number 1 Spot with When You Believe.
You can view the official video here.
All this in spite of the fact that, fed up with the manufactured xmas number 1 singles, Colin Murray, Scott Mills and Edith Bowman from Radio 1 all publicly backed former Arab Strap star Malcolm Middleton and his song We’re All Going To Die (nme).
We await this years X-Factor announcement, Cliffs new single and the potential alternative Christmas number 1!
2006 Christmas Number 1
September 25th, 2008In 2006 Leona Lewis of X-Factor fame (see where this is going) hit the number one spot with a cover of A Moment Like This by Kelly Clarkson.
You can view the official video here.
2005 Christmas Number 1
September 25th, 20082005 saw Shayne Ward, the first X Factor winner to get to number one at Christmas.
You can view the official video here.
2004 Christmas Number 1
September 25th, 20082004 saw Band Aid 20 get to number 1 with an updated version of the 1984 Do They Know It’s Christmas?.
Official video can be viewed here.
2003 Christmas Number 1
September 25th, 20082003 saw Michael Andrews & Gary Jules grab the Christmas Number 1 spot with their version of Mad World by Tears for Fears. The track also featured in 2001 cult classic film Donnie Darko.
This sadly meant a narrow miss for the Darkness with Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End).
